Motion from Councillor Joe Newman: chapter 4 objective 22. AI020814
Amend to read as follows: Facilitate the development of a Park and Ride facility on lands to the east side of the R132 ( barrysparks side) in close proximity to the Fosterstown Metro stop.
REPORT: Objective SWORDS 22 currently reads as follows: “Facilitate the development of a Park and Ride facility on lands in close proximity to the proposed Fosterstown Metro stop”.
This Motion seeks to amend Objective SWORDS 22 as follows: “Facilitate the development of a Park and Ride facility on lands to the east side of the R132 (Barrysparks side) in close proximity to the proposed Fosterstown Metro stop”.
The permission for Metro North included a Park and Ride site on the east side of the R132 near the Fosterstown Metro stop. The Government’s Infrastructure and Capital Investment Plan 2016-2021 includes a new Metro North, which will be similar to the approved Metro North, but with fewer city centre stations and shorter trains. In light of the fact that the design for new Metro North has not started, it is considered more appropriate to provide a more flexible approach to the location of any future Park and Ride as opposed to specifying which side of the R132 it should be located on.
In this regard it is not recommended to amend the existing objective.
RECOMMENDATION: No change.
